Pianotopia is the web home for Shana Kirk, a teacher, pianist, arts advocate, and music industry consultant with extensive expertise in the technologies associated with music performance and education.
Shana is frequently featured on event programs for organizations throughout the US and Canada, including the National Conference on Keyboard Pedagogy, Music Teachers National Association, College Music Society, Association for Technology in Music Instruction, World Piano Pedagogy Conference, The Royal Conservatory, Canadian Federations of Music Teachers' Associations, Music Ed Connect, and numerous regional and state events. She writes music and music-technology based reviews and articles for blogs, websites, and print publications, including Piano Magazine and American Music Teacher, where she co-authors the Tech Connect column.
Shana maintains an ongoing portfolio of consulting for industry leaders such as Yamaha Corporation of America, TimeWarp Technologies, and The Frances Clark Center for Keyboard Pedagogy, where she serves as the Director of Digital Operations. She has also contributed to myriad individual projects at the convergence of technology and pedagogy, including museum exhibits, multimedia installations, festivals, classroom designs, distance-learning studios, retail spaces, websites, recording studios, and more.
Shana holds a BA in Piano Performance and German from Lipscomb University, earned her MM in Piano Pedagogy from the University of Denver, and has pursued additional piano and language studies at the University of Memphis, the Göthe-Institut Mannheim, Mannheim Universität, and Musikhochschule Mannheim. She resides with her husband, two sons, and two dogs in Denver, CO, where they enjoy attending live music of every kind and exploring the wilderness of the Rocky Mountain West.
